Common questions about membership, benefits and the IBGIA onboarding process

What is IBGIA?

IBGIA — the Brazilian Institute for AI Governance — is a nonprofit, independent civil association focused on promoting responsible AI governance in Brazil and Latin America. We work in research, education, consulting and advocacy to ensure that artificial intelligence is developed and used ethically, transparently and responsibly.

Who can become a member?

Professionals from any field — technology, law, public policy, academia, private sector, communications and management — who share the commitment to responsible AI governance. AI governance is multidisciplinary by nature, and we value diversity of perspectives.

What is the membership cost?

Membership is currently being structured. Founding members have special conditions and pay no membership fee in the first year. Future contributions will be collectively defined by the board. Contact us at [email protected] for details.

What are the benefits?

Participation in thematic working groups, access to exclusive events (workshops, masterclasses, Annual IBGIA Forum), networking with leading experts, direct contribution to AI public policy in Brazil, and the founding member title — with permanent recognition in the statute — for the first members.

How does the process work?

Submit your interest via the form or by email ([email protected]). Our team will contact you to present the institute, discuss your participation and identify the most suitable profile — whether as Founding Member, Research Associate, Individual Member or Institutional Partner.

Do I need AI experience?

Not necessarily. AI governance is a multidisciplinary field — lawyers, managers, communicators, researchers from various areas, compliance and public policy professionals are welcome. We value both academic credentials and practical experience.
